Chieh Cheng, Auri Rahimzadeh - Hacking Digital Cameras
|
The University of Kansas (KU) is a very beautiful college campus.During the cool days of autumn, the Hackberry,Hickory, and Silver Maple trees lose the green pigment in their leaves to reveal the yellow. The leaves of the Sugar Maples,on the other hand, turn red, while the Sweet Gum trees become brilliant mixtures of pink, red, purple, and yellow leaves. Sometimes, the leaves are half-red and half-yellow.On slow-paced weekends, the colorful dry leaves cover entire grass fields like a sea of celebration. The crunch under your feet as you walk over the leaves only intensifies the serenity of the natural environment.Through these combi-nations,on-campus foliage radiates fantastic ambience as a living art.
I was fortunate enough to attend KU and observe this living art for four years. On graduation day,I realized that I was about to part with this wonderful visual and aural stimulation. As a poor student,I spent all of my money on computer equipment (I was a Computer Science major),but none on cameras or camcorders to capture this natural beauty.I left KU with no records (other than the ones in my memory) of its magnificent atmosphere.
It’s been almost 10 years since I left KU.In that time,I have picked up several cameras to cap-ture my life and surroundings visually.I studied photography extensively on my own, because I wanted my photographs to be both artistic and meaningful.I have become proficient as a photographer—won several photo contests and have several photos published in magazines. And I have now written this book.I have to say I owe it all to the existence—and invention—of the camera!
